Waiting in Sydney - Sep 25 to Nov 8

Waiting in Sydney - Sep 25 to Nov 8

They too perform a useful function who only sit and wait!

Things had to be done before Pete got his operation. Twins to be seen anew. Things change quickly, don't they! Fred and Katrina are looking a little less tired. The babies have become almost toddlers, Ziggy especially so. They have their first ever sleep over with the grandparents the day after we get in.

Walking in weeks, we'd say!

Bruce got done again too, a new exhaust system to make him go vroom vroom a little louder, and smarter. Jacob recognised us immediately, even if our tales of Bruce and the top end were not so happy ones. We even checked out the shore birds at Taren Point as we waited.

Other things, too, to see and do. The tall ships in town for a festival celebrating the hundred years of the Oz Navy; out to Artarmon to meet the house and dogs we will house sit over Xmas in Artarmon on the north side of the bridge.

Then it happened. Womp. Pete in pain. Doctor first visited; op done a week later. One thing he is now very sure of. He will never go through child birth if he has to have an epidural to do so!

Convalescence back at home in Coogee began just two days later, which was lucky because he had ticked the wrong box on his entry form and the food style chosen was for those not wanting taste at all. Still, that boiled chicken back in Delhi in 1985 will always remain the benchmark for hospital food for him.

It was a long period stuck on the ground floor in Coogee, he was banned from climbing the stairs. The one time he forgot the blood in the urine reminded him why he was to do so. Fortunately, his kind hosts moved the TV down those stairs for him. The fires in The Blue Mountains to the west of Sydney were a stark reminded of what Australia is and has always been, and of what it might become if those warming temperatures everywhere do not get checked. But, anyway, the good news is that a record was set for the house. The most number of consecutive hours spent watching TV by anyone who has ever lived in it ... ever!

Pat got on with her life during this time.

She attended the official opening of her old work colleague (and friend) Shao Ling's Shichida early childhood development centre which is in Chatswood and, so, very close to Artarmon. And, also, a trip out to Olympic Parklands to see birds.

She also managed to seal the deal on the sale of the house in Melbourne, but, alas, Pete was still banned from drinking at that time.

And she took some more photos of the twins!

And, indeed, here are some photos of this fun time in our lives.

We visited the tall ships and foreign naval vessels at Darling Harbour for the International Naval Review.
Birds at Taren Point, where we spent half a day while waiting for Bruce to be serviced: pelican; white-faced heron; silver gull; red wattle bird; bar-tailed godwits (or maybe black-tailed godwits).

Views across Botany Bay and some local flowers at Taren Point.
Olive and Ziggy, age 8 1/2 months.

Riverside suburbs as we took the Rivercat upstream to Olympic Park; hardheads in Randwick.
